Lake Atitlan View

-- from Slipping Away

Lake Atitlan is one of my favorite spots in Guatemala. It was created by huge volcanic activity millions of years ago, and it's located on the Western Highlands at an altitude of 1560 meters above sea-level.

On reading about this lake, I found out that Aldous Huxley visited it once and wrote:

"Lake Como, it seems to me, touches on the limit of permissibly picturesque, but Atitlán is Como with additional embellishments of several immense volcanoes. It really is too much of a good thing."
